Another job well done

The last day of work started out with a little bit of "FUN"

The Today Show was broadcasting from the Jersey Shore and Capt. Frank managed to talk the powers that be into letting him and his crew be among the few to see the band FUN perform!

Look at the amazing tile job they did!

Single mom Kim Gados was pleased with
the job that the team did!

Time for Gumby and Frank to pack up.

The entire team did an amazing job!

One last night on the town....

As long as there is damage....

Presbytery of Detroit teams will continue to help.

For now it's time to grab some food
and hit the road for home.

The work continues...

Steve and Frank demonstrate that they have
skills beyond tiling

by building a little fence.

Some of our Jersey Boys check out the rebuilding going on around town.

Amanda, Nicole and Emma enjoying a meal on a
local ex-army guy by the name of Tony.

Turns out he thought Emma was quite the cutie!

Meanwhile, another group of ladies was hard at work

Ann, Joyce, Judy, Claudia and Susie all know
how to handle a giant pile of trash.

Looks like Ray has spent a bit too much time outdoors.

No matter which coastline we visit...

Gumby always tags along!

Even On the boardwalk, down by the sea...

Melissa and Frank are looking good in their new sweats!

They're ready to hit the town....

Frank found a new spot,
It's got his name written all over it!

and has other things that he may need.

Same Work,,,,, Different Storm

As a group of volunteers who had spent a lot of their spare time serving the victims of Hurricane Katrina were gearing up to hit the road to help some of the tornado victims in Joplin, MO, another storm was brewing. She soon became known as "Superstorm Sandy". Not being the sort of folks to ignore such a thing, the people from the Presbytery of Detroit were soon organizing another trip...
to the Jersey Shore!

Team Frank quickly got busy installing some tile.

That sort of activity soon works up an appetite in people!

Look at the great job they're doing!

A trip along the shore shows the damage that high winds and water can do in a short time.

All work and no play...

would make for a very dull trip.

So the hard working crew is enjoying a little relaxation time.

Just act natural!

This was a very different sort of week for us at "The Village". When Presbyterian Disaster Assistance owned the camp, it was called Olive Tree Village.
Now that the camp is owned by Project Homecoming, it is simply called The Village.

In order to promote volunteerism, Project Homecoming was filming around the camp in the morning and on a couple of the job sites. We were told to wear our new white T-shirts and to "just act natural!"

It seemed like the perfect opportunity for a few group shots...

of PEOPLE Jake, not teeth!

Team Frank with Julie, Nicole, Ray and Georgie

"Team Testosterone", Jake, Doug, Cory and Chadd

Team Tom with Sam, Joanie and Anthony

The entire Katrina 15 Krewe!

The camera crew is off to film on one of the worksites!

Nicole listening intently to the wisdom of Ray?

No wonder Team Frank is getting so much done.
He has lots of help!

Ms. Elvira likes the room that Frank and Julie finished with a little help from Tony.

George and Nicole are lounging on their nicely finished master bedroom floor!

Meanwhile over on Duels......

Anthony scaled new heights to get into his job while Sam stayed firmly planted on the ground.

and Joanie climbed up right along side Tony to tackle another job.

Tom, always the animal lover,
took a moment to decide......

if he really needed another pet.

Enough work for one day. Time to go find Team Testosterone and head for the Second Line!
More on that very soon!

Getting into the groove

Tuesday dawned way too early for those of us with more than one chore on the morning chart. We dove right in and knocked them out and headed to the job sites. Today we will take a look at Team Frank who is working on the house owned by Ms. Elvira.

It's a nice brick house that took 6 feet of water during the storm.

Ms. Elvira is a very sweet woman with lots of wonderful stories and has tremendous faith that helped her survive the ordeal she went through during Hurricane Katrina.

Inside there is a lot of work to be done on the second floor.

The master bedroom is ready for the new bamboo floors.

Julie and Nicole begin laying the floor while Frank and George finish painting the ceilings.

After a few detailed instructions from our site manager Thomas, the teams are redivided.

George joins Nicole to work on the master bedroom

She really is getting into the swing of things.

The smaller front bedroom is also ready for bamboo.

Frank and Julie team up to tackle that room....

While Ray keeps busy cutting boards for both rooms.

Even the ladies wanted to help, but mostly...

They just hung out with Pdah on Team Mischief.

They spend lots of time supervising.

By the end of the work day...

Both rooms are half complete.

Pdah was happy to be back in his special seat.

and anxious for George to get him back to camp.

We still can't figure out how Z-X got so dirty when the only thing she was up to all day was a bit of mischief.

Wednesday was a very busy day, more to come...
